whine and moan in the new year

  • Dec 31, 2006
  • Post a comment

thank god this year is almost over. i'm not quite sure, but i think it wasn't my best. eventful, sure, but it started out with me getting hit by a car (1/3/06) and is ending with a pinched nerve. i think the middle was ok, but i look fat in my pictures.

in other news, i'm going to mexico in two weeks but i'd rather be going to paris or tokyo.

i am such a brat.

happy new year.

so the first quarter is done.
don't know quite what to do with myself yet. is it strange i actually want to start reading foucault now?

today i went for a hike. will be sore tomorrow.

today i read some else's blog. and i feel like a fraud.
how can other people just be so damned brilliant all the time?
or at least express themselves so (w)el(l)oquently.
meanwhile, i write like a social scientist or a bad journalist (not even editorial) when
all i wanted to be was a poet.
total fraud.

time to watch hedwig and have my heart swung.

trying to finish up my penultimate paper of the quarter. completely boring, not relevant to my graduate project, and just painful. this thing is due in ten minutes but ha! i'm on page six.

tonight is going to be hell. once this is out of the way, it's on to writing a 20 pager for my comm class. at least i got an extension on that- i was supposed to be due tomorrow!

LA this weekend, though the annoying bit is that i have to drive back down to SD on Saturday night, then head up again to LA the next day. We'll see how that goes.

Any interest in going to this with me?

Queer, Kewl, and Cultured!
A night of stunning queer West Coast poetry, music, performance, and dance.

FRIDAY, Dec. 8 @ Tribal Café, 7PM
1651 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA., 90026

Lauren Wheeler, Jennifer Fox Bennett, Helen Wong (aka Allenina), Tiko, Edgrrr Grajeda, Lauren Steely

Tiko—Tiko's from Little Havana, and a crowned priest in the Lukumi faith. He's also so incredibly talented it's sick, and Afro-Cuban beats flow from him like moonlight off the evening sand.

Lauren Wheeler—From San Francisco, no one channels broken-glass imagery into hardcore rhythms like our favorite National Slam poet, goth/industrial go-go dancer, and video game producer. http://www.laurenwheeler.com

Helen Wong (also known as Allenina)—Admit it! If you're into transsexuals, you've probably visited http://www.allenina.com. Speaking of hardcore, this transsexual model, scholar, and actress, and former porn icon has been there and done that. Wouldn't you like to see what she's up to now?

Jennifer Fox Bennett—Poet, actor, engineer, member of the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve on the ethereal Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. OMG! Jennifer's words will take you away and leave you breathless. http://www.jenniferfoxbennett.com

Edgrrrr Grajeda—award-winning dancer, actor, poet. From Guadalajara, Mexico, Edgrrr's so beautiful and honest you'll want to sell your possessions and run screaming naked on the beach.

Lauren Steely—musician, poet, transgender activist. The sexiest redhead you can imagine, only smarter and with a better sense of timing.

The cover for this special night is $5. All proceeds (minus the cost of copying these flyers will go to the artists!

DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW! REPEAT. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!

currently in the process of writing the first long-ish academic paper i've had to do since 2004.

i'm feeling incredibly blocked- i worry if my statements will make sense; if the words will flow; if this paper will reveal that i am a fraud and not a real academic.

oy. if only i gave two shits about the paper topic, this may be a little bit easier. alas, i'm not that lucky...

bah.

here is where i am, currently, in case you were wondering:

essential information if we're to be friends with a capital F:

the men of my dreams:

1. Trent from Daria: .

why: slacker. in band with terrible name (mystik spiral). pretty and angsty.

2. Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
why: evil but pretty. british accent. will never look old, but remain preserved as a young billy idol lookalike forevah.

3. Stewie from Family Guy:
why: evil but adorable. british accent. talks and dances with an alcoholic beagle. never gets old.

4. Bruno from da Ali G Show:
why: snarky but stylish. random european accent. wears leather chaps with no shame. faboolous.

5. Jorden Catalano, My So-Called Life:
why: pretty but vacant. musician. can't read real good. looks like a nice kisser. hardly speaks.

psychoanalyze me, folks. what's the common thread, besides their whiteness? help me understand. please.
